CT Angiography Alone Not a Reliable Guide to CAD Severity

Because of its inability to determine the functional significance of coronary stenosis, noninvasive imaging alone does not provide sufficient information to make treatment decisions, especially in patients with intermediate-grade stenosis, according to a study published in the August 19, 2008, issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

To evaluate the correlation between anatomical and functional assessments of coronary artery disease, researchers led by Pim J. de Feyter, MD, PhD, of Erasmus University Medical Center (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), looked at 79 patients with stable angina who had undergone both computed tomographic coronary angiography (CTCA)—either 64-slice or dual-source—and fractional flow ....
