OVERVIEW
This program is geared toward the interventionalist seeking to learn more about transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). TAVR has evolved to become the standard of care in high-risk patients, and the program will explore the role of TAVR in different settings, including in low- and intermediate-risk patients and in the treatment of bicuspid aortic valves. Further, the panel will discuss low- and intermediate-risk patient outcomes, the economic implications of an expanded indication for TAVR, and the place for the cardiac surgeon in a low-risk patient TAVR procedure.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After viewing this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of TAVR in low- and intermediate-risk patients
- Explain the role of the cardiac surgeon in low-risk TAVR procedures
- Discuss future directions for TAVR procedures, including patient and device selection
- Discuss the current status of transcatheter repair and replacement of bicuspid aortic valves
AGENDA
Going Beyond the Intermediate-Risk Patient: The New Boundaries for Transcatheter Therapy
Michael J. Reardon, MD
How Many Patients Would Qualify for TAVI If All Intermediate-Risk Patients Would Be Treated With TAVR?
Christopher U. Meduri, MD
How to Meet the Logistical Challenges of a Rapidly Growing Program
Nicolas M. Van Mieghem, MD
Leveraging the TAVR Experience Into TMVR: Similarities and Differences for the Heart Team
Brij Maini, MD
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed for interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, clinical cardiologists, vascular medicine specialists, and other health care professionals.
ACTIVITY EVALUATION
