Gore Launches New 7.5 cm Length GORE® VIABAHN® Endoprosthesis with Heparin Bioactive Surface
New device size comes in response to physicians’ requests for additional
offerings to expand treatment options
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.,W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced the availability of a new 7.5 centimeter length of the GORE® VIABAHN® Endoprosthesis with Heparin Bioactive Surface. Gore developed this size in response to physician needs for certain clinical situations. The GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis is now available in six lengths: 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15 and 25 cm.
The GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis is the lowest profile, most flexible, self-expanding stent-graft available. In 2013, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted indication for the GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis to treat stenosis or thrombotic occlusion at the venous anastomosis of synthetic arteriovenous access grafts. The flexibility of the device allows placement across the elbow and other challenging venous anastomotic locations.
“Selecting the right length device is an important part of getting good outcomes for dialysis access patients. Until now, some cases required choosing between stacking two devices or unnecessarily covering healthy tissue,” said John Ross, MD, Dialysis Access Institute, Orangeburg Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, SC. “The new 7.5 cm length Viabahn [GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis] improves the ability to land the device with the most accuracy."
“Gore is committed to enhancing our device offerings to meet the demands of a rapidly-evolving healthcare market,” said Ben Beckstead, PhD, Clinical and Technical Peripheral Interventional Business Unit Leader. “Through continued engagement with our physician partners, we identified a significant clinical need for an intermediate-length device. We believe this new offering will help physicians provide better patient care.”
