TZ Medical’s Comfort Halo device can help prevent viral exposure during intubation

TZ Medical takes its company motto “Sparked By Your Ideas” seriously. Just this week, in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, TZ learned from a nurse at a US based hospital that they have begun using TZ Medical’s Comfort Halo device in conjunction with readily available surgical drapes to help protect staff from aerosolized viral exposure during intubation of COVID-19 patients.

Originally designed to hold the drape off a patient’s face during routine pacemaker/ICD implants, the Comfort Halo can also be used in the same manner to help decrease the risk of HCP exposure to airborne/aerosolized viruses and bacteria during intubation.

“Our physicians tested the Comfort Halo on a patient, and we confirmed it worked well for respiratory, anesthesia, and critical care. They were all appreciative of the Comfort Halo. The video of the product helped as well.” - System Administrator

As a growing number of patients must be placed on a ventilator due to severe respiratory complications associated with COVID-19, the potential risk of exposure for healthcare professionals goes up drastically. This is especially true now for providers on the front lines of the pandemic, where the “luxury” of an airborne isolation room is not available and intubations are performed in patient rooms, ED’s, and other higher risk areas. The Comfort Halo enables healthcare providers to intubate patients while better shielding themselves from any aerosolized particles that could be released from the patient's airway during intubation.

“As a trusted partner of hospitals across the US and around the world, TZ Medical will continue to innovate to help those on the front lines of medicine. The simplest approach is most often the best, and the Comfort Halo being re-purposed for healthcare workers’ protection during the battle against COVID-19 is another example of thinking outside the box to use what we have available now to make a positive impact during this difficult time.” Trent Tribou, Vice President, TZ Medical, Inc.
